Travel with a romance book!

Welcome to Romanceopoly, the yearly reading challenge. You’ve landed at the Post Office where your challenge is to read a book set in a different country to where you live. Alternatively, if you want to take it easy, read any romantic suspense book of your choosing.

Lets explore the world through romance books! Whatever country you live in, you need to find a book set elsewhere. This is going to be a little bit more difficult if you’re in the US, but there are plenty of books set around the world.

This makes giving you recommendations a little tricky, as we aren’t creepy enough to spy on where you live. But, we have come up with some recommendations where the books are set outside of the US.

Genre only challenge

If you’re doing the genre only version of the challenge, pick any romantic suspense book of your choosing! For more romantic suspense book recommendations take a look at our Romantic Suspense page on Under the Covers book blog.

The recommendations

Most of historical romance is set in the UK, if you want to see our all time favourites and the books we recommend over (and over!) again, check out these lists we made over on our blog Under the Covers book blog:

Here are some more contemporary romance books set outside of America

Freya Cook is used to being the invisible woman with a needle and thread, offering cheeky punchlines as she helps dress London’s finest. She’s plus-sized in body and spirit, and other than her friendship with Mac, talking to the opposite sex is one skill she never mastered.

However, after one innocent game of Never Have I Ever, Mac offers to play Love Coach for Freya.

What neither of them see coming are the feelings that develop when the clothes come off.

Now they’re both about to learn the biggest lesson of all: Don’t fall in love with your best friend.

She was never caught, but he was the grandson of a mobster and she knows that someday this crime will catch up to her. Casey’s best friend, Diana, is on the run from a violent, abusive ex-husband. When Diana’s husband finds her, and Casey herself is attacked shortly after, Casey knows it’s time for the two of them to disappear again.

Diana has heard of a town made for people like her, a town that takes in people on the run who want to shed their old lives. You must apply to live in Rockton and if you’re accepted, it means walking away entirely from your old life, and living off the grid in the wilds of Canada: no cell phones, no Internet, no mail, no computers, very little electricity, and no way of getting in or out without the town council’s approval. As a murderer, Casey isn’t a good candidate, but she has something they want: She’s a homicide detective, and Rockton has just had its first real murder. She and Diana are in. However, soon after arriving, Casey realizes that the identity of a murderer isn’t the only secret Rockton is hiding—in fact, she starts to wonder if she and Diana might be in even more danger in Rockton than they were in their old lives.
