Welcome to the Black Dagger Legacy! A spin off of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, that focuses on the new trainees recruited to be soldiers in the war against the Lessening Society, the vampires mortal enemies. This series takes place after The Shadows the thirteenth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. In this guide we take a look at the series, and share our fantasy cast.

We all love the Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB) by J.R. Ward and now we have the spin off series Black Dagger Legacy (BDL) series to worship and adore alongside it. As BDL is a spin off and separate series, technically it doesn’t require you to have read BDB. I say technically, as I wouldn’t recommend you read this series if you haven’t first read the BDB series. Without reading the BDB series you’ll have no idea who most the characters are, or the dynamics of the secondary romance which is present in each instalment of the series. To help you out we have put together a reading order that includes BDL, BDB and other spin off series in our Black Dagger Brotherhood series guide.

Black Dagger Legacy Series Synopsis

The Black Dagger Brotherhood are warriors who protect vampires from the evil lessers. The lessers are intent on destroying them…and achieving relative success. The Black Dagger Brotherhood have realised they need help with the war. So, they have broken tradition and are setting up a programme for vampires, whether they be a commoner or aristocrat, male or female to join a training programme to be a soldier in the war against the Lessening Society. It will be gruelling, the few who past the initial test will be put through mental and physical stress that help them become the best soldiers as well as facing their inner demons…and maybe finding love. Welcome to the Black Dagger Legacy.

Black Dagger Legacy Reading Order

This is a really brief series reading order for just the Black Dagger Legacy quartet. We don’t recommend you read this series as a standalone, instead it’s best enjoyed as part of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The full reading order, which includes the Black Dagger Legacy series can be found in our Black Dagger Brotherhood series guide.
